About the Artist

Jojo Abdallah
Jojo Abdallah, Born 1963 | Accra, Ghana
Jojo Abdallah is a quantum traveller whose work portals to alternate universes. He
grew up in Accra and other realms, studied arts and crafts at Chana Secondary
Technical School (GSTS) in Takoradi, and believes he studied fine art at the College
of Art, KNUST (then UST) in Kumasi. He has kept a studio at the Accra Psychiatric
Hospital for the past 45 years, where his role is between patient, staff, and artist-in-
residence. In Abdallah's words: "Art is something where I cannot leave it. Even when
I am an old man, you will see me drawing. It's from the birth to the grave. The gift of
God has given art to me, so it's very hard to take it away from me. Unless I come
back, become somebody again." This is Abdallah's third show with the Ghana
Museums and Monuments Board, and the first that makes a deep curatorial inquiry
into his practice.
